My name is Michaela Ward and I am proud to call myself the Director of German ISD for the past 5 years. I was a teacher in Germany for twenty years before I moved to the States eight years ago, following my American husband and the “American dream.”
As a mother of two bi/trilingual children in a multicultural household, I relate well with families who are far from home or simply want to grant their child the gift of other languages.
You’ve made a great choice to pursue your child’s cultural education, and they will make an impact in society’s future. Your choice will not only open doors for the next generation’s success in the professional world; it will open the minds of children in this increasingly globally-connected world.
It is a privilege to share my strong belief in the European early childhood pedagogy and the importance of childhood years by teaching and living it daily at our school in North Texas. German ISD provides a learning environment deeply rooted in the central European culture and education system, and it also encourages the development of a global perspective and community building.
Since German ISD’s founding in 2009, we remain the only German language immersion program in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex providing full-time, weekday German language instruction to children 18 months to 10 years old.
From day one, students are exposed to German language and culture in a warm and supportive environment. The school focuses on learning through child-directed play experiences and a curriculum based on the “Bayerischer Bildungs- und Erziehungsplan für Kinder in Tageseinrichtungen.”
Our motivated team of educators believes in the balance of preschool and play, which enhances growth and development of its children in all areas: physically, socially, emotionally, creatively and intellectually.
German ISD expanded its educational curriculum to include Lower Elementary classes, starting with Kindergarten through fourth grade. The language concept for elementary school is based on the Dual Immersion Method. The goals of dual immersion programs are to develop bilingualism/biliteracy, academic achievement, and cross-cultural competencies for all students.
Our school’s unique program has various opportunities for your child to learn and grow into a successful student and well-rounded global citizen. As parents, you have a great variety of schools in the Metroplex to choose from. However, there is one choice when it comes to the best of German education, culture, language, and a place that feels a bit like home back in good-old Germany – and it is GERMAN ISD.
I hope to welcome you soon!
“Auf Wiedersehen” &
German ISD Director
