German International School of Dallas

Welcome to German ISD! Our Mission "German ISD is a German Immersion, Reggio Emilia inspired School! Our classrooms have been intentionally designed to reflect our new educational philosophy. Through complete German language immersion and acquisition, we foster independence and nurture practical life skills, emotional and social development, and create foundational learning experiences." LEARNING TOGETHER WITH NATURE Since experiencing nature is a healthy part of child development, we are taking our class outdoors and use elements of nature for teaching the usual classroom subjects. German ISD Team 2021/22 IT IS A PRIVILEGE... to have a team of educators and colleagues who share their passion for teaching and children. All our teachers are committed to their job; that commitment along with their love for mentoring young children is displayed daily in a professional manner. The German ISD team is grateful for the trust and the wonderful opportunity given to be such an important part of their student’s development during their early childhood years at school! We are ready to reach milestones with you! More Details OUR EDUCATION STANDS FOR MORE. Our four fundemental values: the child as a competent learner, the environment as a third teacher, the necessity of collaboration in learning and the importance of making learning visible, all while learning the German Language! More Details ELEMENTARY CLASSES German Immersion The Language concept for Elementary classes is based on the Principle of the Immersion Method, known as the technique used in language education in which one language is used for instruction in a variety of topics, including math, science and social studies. Why you will love German ISD

Roll of the Teacher
German ISD’s educators are masters of teaching with a strong belief in the European education philosophies. The most precious parts of a child’s early educational development is influenced by their trained German teachers. Our certified team of educators present the materials and programs – all of which are developed in Germany – in an enthusiastic manner with the goal to instill a hunger in their students to learn more independently every day. The way German ISD’s teachers educate – while developing themselves as teachers – has a strong influence on their young students. Teaching at German ISD is more than a job. It is the opportunity for German ISD’s staff to share their passion for German language, tradition, and culture in Texas.

Image of the Child
Children are viewed as capable, strong and powerful protagonist in their own learning. Children construct knowledge and co-research with the teacher. Learning occurs through collaboration and relationships with the teacher, parents, environment and other students. Children are viewed as citizens and creators of culture. Children are valued for what they are now, not simply what they will become.

Portfolio and Documentation
German ISD’s integrated portfolios are the most authentic way to assess the growth and development of each student. These portfolios serve as a representative collection of each student’s work throughout the year. It contains each student’s best pieces, special moments, and outstanding achievements during his/her school career at German ISD. For Lower Elementary classes, portfolios are additionally used as a record of activities experienced over time, developing each student’s writing skills. This supports cooperative learning and team building by offering students the opportunity to share and comment on each other's work. Students’ portfolios are passed on to the next teacher and grade level following each year of the child’s attendance at German ISD.

Environment, the 3rd Teacher
The classroom environment plays just as important a role as the teacher and the students. The teachers arrange and rearrange the classroom with intent and respect. Materials are chosen that will stimulate, inspire, and challenge the children as they enter the room at the beginning of the school year. As the year progresses, specific needs arise, a community is built, and project topics emerge; the environment will change as a result. For example, the dramatic play areas will become restaurants, taxi cabs, subway stations, post offices, and much more. The classroom is also set up so that children may freely engage in activities, use materials and make choices with little adult intervention. This respectful process lends itself to children learning independence and gaining confidence in their abilities.

As the mother to 3 young children, I’ve had the opportunity to explore many different schools — and none compare to GISD. The teachers at GISD are warm, generous, and have cared about my kids as if they were their own. Every day at GISD is an adventure for my kids — creating art, learning new German words and customs, learning about the moon from famous guests including a German astronaut (!), or simply having fun on the playground. The GISD’s children’s play on St. Martin’s Day in late autumn is a family favorite.

Parents

Our 4-year old daughter is beginning her 4th year at GISD. We have been beyond pleased with GISD teachers and administrators. What parent would object to loving, dedicated teachers, to organic meals and snacks, daily outdoor recreation (rain or shine) in a protected and safe area? What parent wouldn’t want to see an immersive language development experience and planned school curriculum with teachers who are committed and not stressed out? GISD is fortunate too to have dedicated families and a progressive asset-improvement program. Just today, on the way to GISD, our daughter asked hopefully if today was her long day (we signed on for 2 days a week of after-school care). To our joy, our daughter playfully wants to stay even when it’s time to go home. By all measures, we couldn’t be more pleased with GISD.

Gregg and Silvia Corella

Our 3-year old son, Buddy, started his second year at German ISD (GISD) this Fall and our nine-month old daughter, Isabela, is on the waitlist to start with the Koalas in 2020.  We love GISD, because its teachers focus on developing social skills and building confidence for their charges in a complete German immersion program.   Plus, it maintains a wonderful, small school environment, where the students, faculty, and parents all know each other and interact regularly and easily in a world reminiscent of my own upbringing in a small town in Leinfelden, Germany.

Herlinda & William Jordan

German ISD is a true gem in DFW, for any parents interested in giving their little ones a loving, stimulating, and always interesting learning environment!

Parents of three four children

The German International School of Dallas has been a wonderful experience for my daughter and the entire family. The love and passion the teachers have in instructing your students in German is bountiful and comforting for a mother whose toddler is going away to school for the first time. The entire staff has been helpful, kind, and genuine. I am grateful to have discovered GISD and highly recommend it to others!

Christiane Turner (Koala parent),

Before having my son , I was a Giraffen teacher at GISD for 3.5 years.

I truly enjoyed working in such a family-like environment with an emphasis on building strong relationships with the children and their families. Now I am looking forward to my son being old enough to start his German ISD journey , where I know he will be treated according to the individual he is, with his strengths being promoted and highlighted and his weaknesses being accepted and worked with.
